More dashboard cameras in the news

I wrote a couple weeks ago about Steve Chapman’s blog post on the Chicago Tribune website about the need for dashboard cameras in squad cars following an investigation into phony DUI arrests by a Chicago Police officer.

I’m glad to see he’s back at it again today with another post, this time in reference to an incident involving NFL player Ryan Moats, who ran a red light on his way to the hospital to get to the bedside of his dying mother-in-law only to be harassed in the parking lot by a Dallas police officer. Moats’ mother-in-law died while he was being issued a ticket out in the parking lot, which took nearly 15 minutes.

I’m glad to see Chapman using his pull to bring the issue of dashboard cameras to light, as it doesn’t seem to be on the mainstream media’s radar, but I would love to see him use his pull to get the Tribune to write an editorial or two on the topic. He is on the editorial board, after all.
