Police in Rockford say a man who was apparently aiming at a stray dog instead shot an acquaintance in the head and fled before officers arrived at the scene.

[Rockford Police Sgt. Milo Scheffels said] there were reports that the dog was bothering people, but the gunman missed in shooting at it.

The victim, whose name and age were unavailable, was taken to the hospital with a nonlife-threatening gunshot wound to the head.

Scheffels says police are looking for the gunman, who is likely to face charges. [via]
