At the risk of sounding insensitive, aren’t there more important things that could be the top story of multiple news sites right now? I get it, she was famous, she was a beloved actress, she hit her head and had the rare “walk and die” syndrome that we should all be wary of and her story can shed light onto the importance of getting checked out after a head injury. It’s a sad story. I would be shocked and devastated at the sudden death of a family member, but is this really that tragic?
I can think of a handful of more tragic scenarios I’ve read about just in the past week without even trying. How about any one of the 29 Chicago Public Schools students murdered this year? Any flash floods lately? I’m sure someone has died in a fire somewhere because of broken smoke detectors.
Or how about my high school friend who’s in Afghanistan with the National Guard. He just lost three buddies over the weekend when they got blown the fuck up by some terrorist who planted a roadside bomb. Yes, when you join the military you are putting your life on your line for your country. But something tells me they would have much rather died some other way, probably after their tour was up and while doing something they loved. Like skiing.
