Bill Maher on the U.S.: 'It's Still Not a Very Bright Country' ›
It is incredible to hear the stuff that comes out of Bill Maher’s mouth. I’m past the point of getting upset when I hear his arrogant nonsense and at this point I just find him terribly amusing.
Here is the context of that statement.
“I read the other day, I think only four in 10 Americans believe in evolution. It’s still not a very bright country, Larry.”
Maher is not a pundit, he is a comedian. I do find it shocking that so few Americans believe in evolution. I’m not going to say these people are morons, but I have strong concerns about how their reasoning skills could put my life in danger.
Whether Americans believe in Evolution or not really isn’t the issue. The issue is Maher’s judgment and a (lack of) deeper insight into people’s humanity. Maher is barely a comedian who believes he’s a pundit, living a perpetual quasi preach-with-a-smirk existence. He’s neither funny, nor a great politico. On the rare occasion he finally shuts his yap, all that’s left in the room is the stench of arrogance floating on a residual vapor of poor discourse. One can only hope that during his next tête-à-tête with God, Maher is assigned a loftier, more…green gig, like 40 years of silence in a place boasting a natural canopy and no cell phone service. Evolution vs. Creationism? Really Bill? To me, the real proof of the lack of intelligence in this country is that your show is still on the air.
The biggest problem with our country is an absolute incorrect interpretation of the Bible.
I’ll agree that the biggest problem with our country is an absolute incorrect interpretation of the Bible, but I’ll take it a step further and ask why interpret it at all?
And to alanfm78’s point about Bill Maher, it always amuses me about people who are so anti-Bill Maher. I will completely agree that he is often arrogant, but he doesn’t scare me the way religious fundamentalists do. He is very fervent in his ways, but the gospel he preaches is that of “I don’t know, and neither do you.” He is arrogant toward the intolerance of religion, because religion has no wiggle room. God is not what scares him; what scares him is people like this, who will spread hate and incite violence in the name of their God that no one can prove or disprove exists.
Bill Maher is not an atheist. He is not the antichrist. He’s simply a man who doesn’t know, is perfectly comfortable with it and is preaching his gospel, much like many religious people do in this country. Only his doesn’t preach intolerance and hate.
