(Radiohead - Pyramid Song)

I’ve always thought “Pyramid Song” was, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful and chilling Radiohead songs I’ve heard.  I’ve spent so many nights driving home from wherever while listening to this song.

I wasn’t previously aware that this four and a half minute song has so many influences. The first two lines have a resemblance to the beginning of the first verse of “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot”.  The line “and we all went to heaven in a little row boat” is nearly identical to a lyric found in Tom Waits’ song “Clap Hands”, which was taken from “The Clapping Song”, by Shirley Ellis.

Let’s not forget that this song is infamous for its time signature. I don’t think it’s possible to type “Pyramid Song” in a search and without seeing a discussion about whether it’s a subdivision of 8/8 or an unbelievable 4/4. We may never actually figure it out, but I will always love this song.

Rachel finally caved and started a Tumblr a few days ago and is already cranking out gems like this. I can’t wait to see what else she has in store for us.
