In the United States, we give high profile suspects bulletproof vests and armed human shields. Then we send them to trial so taxpayers can pay to have them incarcerated for the rest of their lives, which costs tens of thousands of dollars per year, per inmate.

I’m all for due process, but maybe we could at least try the Canadian strategy of transport in certain instances: paint a bullseye on their back, step aside and see what happens.
