I suppose I shouldn’t be all that surprised that the first Hawks story to last in the top news section for 12-plus hours is a story about Patrick Kane not yet recording his first NHL fight. After all, to those who don’t understand hockey, it’s just a bunch of goons skating around with sticks occasionally fighting each other, right?

Kudos to Chris Kuc for seeing the humor in this story and the Andrew Ladd quote. It seems like he knows how much of a non-story this is. But my best guess says that the editors who decided to assign this think it’s some kind of huge deal that a hockey player hasn’t recorded a fight. But Patrick Kane is a finesse player who weighs maybe a buck sixty-five soaking wet. He isn’t going to take an ass-kicking — because that’s it’s likely to go down — until there’s a good reason he needs to.
