Kanye West feat. Chris Martin - “Homecoming”
I’m not a huge fan of the version of this song that ended up on the album, but a lot of the visual effects in this video, mostly early on, are kind of cool. There are some really great shots.
I’m with David here. I thought this song was one of the weakest on the album, but I love the video. It doesn’t really give a great representation of the diversity of Chicago, but any Chicago plug gets my love.
Maybe I’m overstepping, but I think Lupe could pull off a better Chicago vibe. And I can’t wait until the Cool Kids make it big. They didn’t have Chris Martin, but I’d argue their video for “Black Mags” is better than that of “Homecoming.” More obsure? Of course. But if you’re from the Chi, you know what’s up.
And to the street cred of Kanye hanging in front of Cabrini Green at the end of the video? There are expensive condos blowing up next door. I’ve got nothing but love for Kanye, but Cabrini is getting torn down, and he could have picked a much more “street” project in Chicago if he was trying to look like a hardass. Even a white boy like me can hang out around Cabrini and snap shots without being bothered.
