The Chicago Blackhawks just pulled off the greatest comeback in franchise history. Down 5-0 at one point in the first period, they came back and scored five unanswered goals to force overtime, then capped off the win 26 seconds into extra time.
And the game was blacked out on local TV thanks to the NHL’s exclusive broadcasting deal with Versus, which is owned by Comcast, a company that accounts for about 75 percent of the market in Chicago and would be damned if they allowed the channel to be picked up at a reasonable rate to the smaller competing carrier with vastly superior service, and, unfortunately in these situations, happens to be my cable provider.
If missing games like this doesn’t piss off Wide Open West customers into action, I don’t know what will.
Just like last year, it’s only going to get worse once the Blackhawks make their run for the Cup and the Conference Final games and beyond are only broadcast on Versus aside from the two or three on NBC.
