I just put this up for sale on Craigslist.

I love my motorcycle. It looks so rad. It’s vintage. It turns a lot of heads. I can go pretty fast on it.

But I’ve only ridden it a handful of times this season. One of my first times out on it I got pulled over. Luckily, I ended up with a warning.

Then I bought a bicycle back in May as an early birthday present (as if you didn’t know). I’ve ridden it about five days a week.

My motorcycle is only 200cc, so I can’t take it on the highways to the city. If I lived in the city, I would have to have a garage, as it’s a small motorcycle and easy to steal. I’d have to buy city motorcycle stickers and worry about parking (and stealing). It doesn’t get great gas mileage. So I can only really keep it around town out in the ‘burbs.

But if I want to explore around town I usually ride my bicycle. I figure burn calories, not gas. If I want to go to the city, I can throw my bicycle in my car’s trunk. Or I can ride to the train station and from there be downtown Chicago in 45 minutes or less. Then I can ride wherever I want. Or, if I packed some food and spare tubes, I could ride the 35 miles to the city.

Motorcycle maintenance is expensive. I can maintain my bicycle myself for free. I’ve crashed a few times on my bicycle this summer and gotten up and ridden away. Something tells me that wouldn’t be the case if I crashed on my motorcycle.

I can sell my motorcycle and buy a couple of more bicycles.

Motorcycle, I love you, but you’re bringing me down.

I’ll miss you.
