And guess which one had the blowout?
Kevlar may be bulletproof, but it is no match for the nastiness that is the lake shore path near Oak Street Beach. On the bright side, I got to take an adventure through the city and learned how to use the racks on the front of CTA buses.
After 500 miles of hard riding on my bike this summer it’s totally fitting that I would have my first blowout on a leisurely spin down the lake shore path the first time I’ve ever ridden in Chicago.
I met up with Erica to check out her new place and we cruised from Montrose/LSD down to Oak Street Beach, where I hit a pothole on the breakwall along the lake and blew out my back tire. She forgot her cell phone at her apartment and didn’t know her roommates’ numbers by heart, so we tried getting ahold of one of them through Facebook on my iPhone to pick us up. Apparently you can’t message people who have extremely private profiles and aren’t your friends through the FB iPhone app, so we couldn’t get ahold of him (SRSLY, how did people survive without being wirelessly connected to the world at their fingertips). We walked from Oak Street and LSD to North and Halsted, where caught a bus back up north, but still had another 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile to go from where the bus route ended.
Luckily this all played out in the city where there’s public transportation and not the suburbs, but it was quite the weeknight adventure!
