Today I officially passed the 500 mile mark on my new bike. It took me less than two months to acheive it. When I bought my bike I knew I wanted to ride to get me off the boredom of the treadmill — which I could barely stand using for a 20-minute run — and out onto the road, but I didn’t really expect to get this hooked. I haven’t ridden my motorcycle in more than a month, and I’m even contemplating selling it so that I can get another bicycle. Whenever it’s nice and I want to get out on the road, I’d rather just use my own two legs to get around.
I’m always unsure as to at what point you can consider yourself a part of a culture; I still consider myself a hockey player even though I haven’t been on the ice in a year, but I played for about 3/4 of my life. I may still be a rookie having just reignited my passion for bicycles this spring, I think after 500 miles in less than 60 days I can officially consider myself a cyclist without hesitation.
Side note: I’m pretty good with direction, but if you take a look inside the yellow circle, I got a little turned around today near downtown Naperville on part of my ride. I knew where I was at all times, but my GPS on my B.iCycle app kept telling me that streets I was on were thru streets, which they obviously weren’t. I think I may have found a new favorite weekend route. I also combined two separate tracks because my phone was dying and I knew I was close to the 500 mile mark and didn’t want to lose my data.
