Today is April 28. By week’s end it will be May. Last week it hit 80 degrees for the first time in more than 180 days, I had to mow the grass twice and I ended up with a decent sunburn I’m still recovering from. I just looked out the window and it is snowing.
I just got a phone call from a guy who said he met me last week in downtown Naperville about going out and riding our motorcycles. I haven’t been to downtown Naperville in months, and I certainly haven’t given my number to anyone about going out and riding. I’m sure there are other guys named Jeff who ride motorcycles in Naperville, but another Jeff who rides a bike with a nearly...
I love how in this story the “victims” are referred to as a “15-year-old boy” and an “18-year-old youth,” even though they were the initial aggressors of the altercation. My money says that if the 53-year-old man hadn’t defended himself and instead ended up in the hospital or dead, “boy” and “youth” wouldn’t be found in this...
During the Mass, the pope said the church has worked ‘to deal honestly and...
– Except, of course, when he was busy authoring a letter to be distributed to every bishop in the world threatening to throw them out of the Church if they didn’t cover up the sex abuse. Bill Maher has a pretty good take on it. [quote via CNN]
“It concerns me that this many shots were fired with children present… in close proximity to children.” - David Cerda, in reference to the cougar that was killed in Chicago last night. What I don’t get is why everyone is always out to get the Chicago Police Department. I, for one, don’t know too many parents who live in the city that would allow their children to walk...
Cops kill cougar on Chicago's North Side →
A cougar of the large cat variety, not a hot older woman.
Goodbye, Ryan Adams
Today, Ryan Adams got the boot from my Tumblr “following” list. He’s blogged about 30 separate pieces in the past 24 hours, and it’s clogging up my Dashboard with incessant drivel. For comparison’s sake, he’s nearly up to Julia Allison’s pace before she got an ego check and went on a blogging “hiatus.” So, Ryan, I bid you Adieu. I enjoyed a few...
I saw a short preview for a recent 60 Minutes piece about Derek Paravicini, a blind, severely learning impaired, slightly autistic musical savant. But being 60 Minutes, it trashed up the piece to sell him as “The Human iPod” because of his ability to recall every piece of music he’s ever heard. (You can watch it with multiple commercial interruptions here.) So I did my own...
Snuffing out opposing viewpoints in the name of...
I don’t know what you have against God, but some of us don’t have much against him. We look forward to his blessings… I’m trying to understand the philosophy that you want to spread in the state of Illinois… This is the land of Lincoln where people believe in God… What you have to spew and spread is extremely dangerous… It’s dangerous for our...
Possible standoff looms at polygamist ranch →
Ambulances rolled into a Texas ranch that’s home to members of a polygamist sect, as authorities continued their search Saturday night for possible victims of physical and sexual abuse.Um, wasn’t this the Season 2 finale for Big Love?
A Prediction
Schlitz beer is coming back to Chicago next week in its classic 1960s formula. My money says it will overtake PBR to be the new ironic hipster drink of the moment.
Last night I dreamt I was being chased through the air by a zombie version of my 6-year-old self. I wonder what that means.
